Seek
the light of day . . .
A cord of wood
runs four by four
(four squared) and then again by eight.
Poplar not, nor
Pine, Spruce, Hemlock
nor any other wood but these:
Black Locust, Oak,
Ash and Maple
will make the fairest, finest cord.
Apple, Cherry
and other wood
does truely have a pleasant scent;
but proof against
an icy grip
demands a harder, denser grain.
